Sales of framing lumber kicked into gear late Wednesday. After a weak close to the March futures contract on Monday, gains in the May contract were one catalyst for the increased activity in cash. The arrival of spring-like weather across much of the country was another. Meanwhile, constraints on production were still in force. Logs were in tight supply across the West, and breakup limited deliveries to mills in the Inland region. Many prices carried modest upward momentum into the week based on last week's action.

Structural panel sales lost momentum, but prices moved higher. Sales of OSB slowed from last week's pace but remained sufficient to keep prices tilted upward. Long order files, inventories to be sold, and recent sharp increases in prices pushed some buyers to the sidelines to digest earlier Southern Pine plywood purchases. However, prices continued to climb based on fair sales. Many western Fir plywood buyers were cautious following last week's surge in prices. Thin field inventories forced some buyers into the market.
