LAMINATED WOOD ROOFS
A NEW WAY OF USING AN ANCIENT MATERIAL LIKE WOOD The laminated wood is a material formed from dried lamellas and glued together with finger joints on the heads. Before being glued, the individual lamellae are classified according to the mechanical properties, to guarantee the final lamellar resistance class through assembly. The wood species most used for the realization are: spruce, white fir and larch. Glued laminated wood is particularly suitable for construction components subject to high loads and with a very wide light. The advantages linked to this particular type of material are certainly a better exploitation of the material with less waste of material, greater flow and stability compared to solid wood, as well as the limited presence of splits and twists, the possibility of creating unique beams with large lengths for large spaces of light, or unique bearing arch structures in their kind. The structures of glulam roofs, although made of a combustible material, may have a fire resistance equal to or higher than that of steel or reinforced concrete structures. In fact, in the lamellar wood the combustion takes place slowly thanks to the good thermal insulation realized by the carbonized surface layer. All our lamellar beams come exclusively from certified European forests. |
